Even many of the sales experts say that network marketing is a relationship business.

But they don’t really mean it. The so-called experts, the Heavy Hitters … they’ve never built a relationship with their spouses, with their children. They don’t even know what a relationship is.

I’ll tell you what - I’m here to PROVE that network marketing is a relationship business.

A few months ago my mentor, Tom “Big Al” Schreiter, had 40 top network marketers, full-time income earners, in a room. He asked them, “How were you introduced to network marketing?” He gave them 10 choices:

    A. Relative or friend.
    B. Newspaper advertising.
    C. A mailing.
    D. An audio cassette or CD.
    E. At a trade show.
    F. Radio advertising.
    G. The Internet.
    H. By referral.
    I. By a stranger at a chance encounter.
    J. Saw a flyer.

So what would you guess? How many of these leaders were sponsored in each category?

Results & Conclusions

Thirty-six of the 40 raised their hand and said they came in through a friend or family member. This is a very powerful point which you must understand.

If you’re running ads, or if you’re cold-calling people, calling names from that never-ending list … you’re really going against the odds.

Would you rather have 90% odds in your favor, or 90% odds against you?

We have a lead generation system we’ve been using for almost 2 years now, called “Mentoring For Free.” The beauty of this system is, you use it to advertise and get new leads … and then you continue using it to build a relationship with those leads, so that over time, you wind up talking to friends.

And we tell people, don’t ever talk to someone about your business - in fact, don’t even tell them which company you’re with, because it doesn’t matter - until you have a relationship with them. You MUST take the time to build that relationship before you can ever hope to make them a business parter.

How long does THAT take? A month, sometimes. Three months. Six months. Two years. It doesn’t matter. It takes as long as it takes.

But whether you ever try our Mentoring For Free system or not, the fact is, if you try to sidestep the relation-ship building process and present your opportunity to them before they are your friend, they will blow you out of the water, guaranteed.

Look at Tom’s result again. Thirty-six of 40 came in from a friend or family member. That is 90%! To be successful long-term in this business, you MUST make a lot more friends. THAT should be your #1 strategy.
