Focus on what you want - NOT what you don’t want
I remember 50 years ago, hearing Earl Nightingale on the radio, talking about “The Strangest Secret.” This inspirational recording became a huge hit back in the day.
It was the first time broadcast media was used to communicate this simple message to millions of people:
“You become what you think about most.”
THAT is, of course, true, and that was Nightingale’s “Strangest Secret!”
The point is simple. You should consciously choose and be aware of everything you think and talk about. Everything in life is a test … so test this:
For the next 6 hours, choose to focus your thoughts and your spoken words ONLY on what you really want in your life. If bad thoughts start to creep in, then you need to flesh out the positive thoughts in more detail. Get vivid colors, smells, sounds. Get all your senses involved.
As Earl Nightingale said, your mind can only hold one thought at a time. The more vivid you make that picture, the more detail you can put into it, the less and less troublesome negative thoughts will be for you. There just won’t be any room for them.
You’ll find this training I recently did on “visualization” especially helpful in focusing on the positive and getting rid of the negative:
Visualization
So do this little test for several hours every day … until it is second nature to you, and it is standard operating procedure for you. Your life will make a major positive change when everything you see is positive.
