Something magical happens to the human spirit - a sense of calm - when you no longer need all the attention directed toward yourself … when you can let others have the glory.
Greed & ego kill you in MLM. A lot of people demand constant attention.
Look at me! Look at me!
But here’s the thing. Everyone else also wants to be seen, heard, respected. And if you insist on it, they often feel it’s at THEIR expense. Result: someone who may have been a great advocate for you becomes an adversary.
So - don’t interrupt or “one-up” someone else’s story. Let them have their moment in the sun. In fact, practice asking questions that help others REALLY bring out the details of their story.
Unfortunately, most of us seem to have a natural inclination to try to grab that glory for ourselves, to chime in with our own stories … about us. Try this instead: consider that your function is to make the other person look good. If that’s how you act, then you will become the object of a LOT of devotion.
It’s not an easy change to make. You will really have to focus, because the natural tendency is to try to shift the spotlight back on us. But it’s also an opprotunity for enormous personal growth. When you actually help others get the glory and bask in the limelight, you get a sense of inner peace and achievement and confidence that you may not have felt before.
Plus - the other person won’t feel they are in competition with you. They will see that you are on their side, that you are actually helping them get the recognition they deserve.
Result? This person is much more relaxed around you, more confident, more interesting. And you’ll be more relaxed, too. You won’t be on the edge of your seat, waiting your turn. Instead, you will have created an enthusiastic supporter who may have great effect in helping you build your MLM income.
